Gourdon

History of Gourdon

People first lived in the surrounding caves 25 000 years ago. It was settled in the middle ages as a fortified city with an enormous chateau. During the 100-years war, it set up a strong resistance against the English, although they eventually won & destroyed the chateau that was never rebuilt. The cathedral however, did survive.
