Brenda J. Clark Retreat 2026

21 – 30 August 2026

Join Expressionist painter Brenda J. Clark in the Perigord and Quercy regions of France, August 21-30, 2026 to broaden your painting experience.

On this exciting trip, you’ll learn how to see and capture a scene with more confidence of spontaneity. You’ll become more expressive with color and shaping, inspired by the energy of each breathtaking plein air location!

Our hosts, Harrison and Katel, of Perigord Retreats will take care of everything from the moment you arrival until the moment they drop you back  off at the train station.

Each day Brenda will motivate you to paint with expressive color and mark-making amidst preserved medieval hilltop villages, atop breathtaking panoramic views overlooking dramatic valleys, and along the Dorgogne and Vezere rivers.

Our hosts will prepare fresh, delicious homemade meals and shuttle us to new and inspirational areas to paint each day.

Lead by Brenda, using acrylic paint on paper, wood or canvas, you’ll create plein air studies and finished paintings to bring back home. Paintings to document and provide a memory bank of future inspiration and remind you of this unique experience.

To Beautiful Locations

Absorb yourself in the painting ambience. Benefit by working in a group of painters with various stages of experience. Discussion and demonstration will encompass color palette, thematic associations of being in France in late August, AND bringing a painting to completion. You will be painting on location and still have time to appreciate the beauty of the region’s villages and perspectives of individual painting locations. Studio space at the retreat location will be used to meet and explore more painting and engage in inspiring discussion amongst fellow artists.

Brenda will mentor each member of the group. She will tap her higher education and gallery teaching experience to provide each participant with tailored insights, while also painting alongside of everyone to provide pace and visual reflection for fulfilling each day’s objectives.

Specific locations for daily painting will be anywhere from 5 minutes to one hour away. All painting and sight-seeing travel will be organized by Perigord Retreats. Each day’s agenda will be announced prior to the retreat arrival date. There will be time for sight seeing and relaxation each day.

This retreat will be a lifetime memory full of French imagery, new creative influences, and new inspiration for expanding your experience as an artist.

A Day with Us Looks Like This…

Your day begins with a peaceful breakfast of freshly baked French pastries, homemade yoghurt, and seasonal fruit—best enjoyed in the sunlit conservatory as the day gently unfolds.

Around 9 am, we set off—early enough to enjoy our destinations while they’re still quiet, with the morning light casting everything in a perfect glow.

Spend your morning soaking up the atmosphere of a new place: wander through charming side streets, discover hidden corners, or settle into a quiet spot to sketch and take it all in. When you’re ready for lunch, a beautiful spread awaits—think crisp salads, savoury quiches, homemade cookies, and a glass (or two) of wine, served picnic-style in the shade.

Afternoons are for creativity and rest. Back at the studio, you’ll have dedicated time to paint, unwind by the pool, take a nap, read, sunbathe, or simply enjoy good conversation in a quiet corner.

Evenings are a highlight: a delicious, three-course meal made with local ingredients, prepared by Katel—whose cooking alone is worth the trip. With wine flowing and good company around the table, it’s a chance to relax and connect.

After dinner, the time is yours. Watch the sunset, return to the studio for more painting, take a dip in the hot tub, or explore the nearby paths under the stars.

Our retreats are designed to be flexible, inspiring, and restorative—so you can get exactly what you need out of your time with us.
