When choosing what social media platform is the most effective to share and promote one’s artwork, Instagram is usually the first one that comes to mind.

This is obviously due to the highly visual nature of this platform in comparison to other social media channels where text is often the primary communication means.

Many artists wonder whether it’s worth it to invest time and energy to set up and manage an Instagram profile.

In this post, we will explore all the reasons why using Instagram can be beneficial for your work and for your life as an artist.

Selling Your Artwork?

Buyers are increasingly using Instagram to look for new artists

According to a study published on statista.com, the percentage of art buyers who use this social media platform to discover interesting artists went from 48% in 2016 to a staggering 87% in 2020.

In layman’s terms, almost 9 out of every 10 buyers are searching for inspiring artwork on Instagram.

This alone makes it crucial for a visibility-seeking artist to have an Instagram profile where to post his or her great creations.

What’s the takeaway from this? If you’re fishing for a buyer and you’re not on Instagram, you’re probably fishing in the wrong pond!

It’s Extremely Easy to Use

Being active on Instagram does not require writing long posts or posting well-produced videos. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need a regular PC to post on Instagram.

All you need is your phone and your pictures. Just upload your artwork, add a few lines, throw in a few hashtags and you’re good to go.

Over time, you’ll realise what resonates more with your specific audience and you’ll naturally start posting more stuff like that. It’s a great way to get feedback!

If “wasting too much time” was one of the reasons why you were reluctant to use Instagram, you can cross that out!

It’s A Great Way to Test People’s Impressions

In addition to art buyers, ordinary art lovers and appreciators, as well as common folks, use Instagram on a regular basis too.

This makes this platform very effective when you want to test people’s reactions to new, experimental, or out-of-the-ordinary content.

The sharing of feelings, opinions, and views can also become part of the creative process itself. Growing on Instagram as an artist is therefore a good reason to join, regardless of the other benefits.

If your art is directed at a specific audience, Instagram comments and reactions can help you understand your audience better and shape your creations in a way that vibes better with them.
