The Magic of Watercolor: An Art and Spirit Retreat with Melissa Harris
In this Art and Spirit Retreat we will combine plein air painting at historical and medieval sacred sites along with meditation and studio painting time. Workshops are an ideal place to explore your creative process, especially within a like minded group of individuals in a magical location. The Dordogne region is rich in historic castles, culture, towns, caves and landscapes- sure to provide you with the trip of a lifetime. No previous experience is required. You may choose to simply keep an informal visual travelogue of your time in this beautiful region of France.
At the retreat you will:
Learn or refine watercolor technique through basic tools such as composition, color, subject matter, perspective and proportion
Use meditation to connect with your inner being to help define your own unique style of painting
Visit and paint at sacred sites such as Rocamadour, location of the Black Virgin dating back to the 11th Century, Cahors with its Roman remants and on the route of the Pilgrims of Santiago Compostella, Sarlat cathedral and medieval buildings, St Circ Lapopie with it’s church and spiritual, surrealist feel. Other towns we may visit include La-Roque Gageac, Beynac castle, Sarlat La Caneda and more.

Melissa Harris is an internationally published artist and author. Her book, “99 Keys to a Creative Life” was published by Llewellyn Worldwide and made the publisher’s best seller list. Her imagery has been licensed by publishers in the US, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Melissa two fine art degrees in Painting and received a prestigious Fulbright scholarship to study Painting in Paris which whet her appetite for documenting her travels in paint wherever she journeys. She has painted the arches of Morocco, the temples of Bali, the Goddess temples in Malta, sacred sites throughout the UK, pyramids in Mexico, coastlines of Costa Rica, Croatia and Hawaii and numerous locations throughout the US. She has exhibited widely throughout the US and France. Melissa is commissioned for portraits on a regular basis and her work can be found in numerous collections.
Melissa has taught painting since 1991 and loves to combine her love of travel with her love of teaching. Recent painting retreats have included Georgia O’Keefe’s Ghost Ranch, Italy and Ireland. Her teaching style is gentle, yet informative and her students appreciate her no pressure approach to learning.
