Ev Hales – Watercolour painting 2 – 17 October
Painting en plein air is the most amazing challenge. The world alters with the rhythm of a day, sunrise to sunset, which means as the light and colours change. Add to this the differences in the crops and foliage from one season to another and it is not hard to understand why I want to return with a group of artists in Autumn after experiencing this region in Spring.
The ambience of Perigord Retreats provides a unique experience – it becomes your ‘home’ base, with pool, studio, and amazing food – really what more do you need. The final requirement is paint brush and the best bit your own mentor to help with any difficulties along the way.
That is my job.
Who am I?
I professional artist working mostly in watercolour although with a love of printmaking. I trained as an art teacher many decades ago and have since led a full professional life as an award winning artist while still sharing skills with others on a casual basis – on painting trips like this. You can get a glimpse at my teaching style from Youtube clips and I have published a series of 10 ebooks documenting my teaching. These are available on my www.evhalestuition.com website as well as ebook stores – “Painting with Ev Hales”. My challenge is to ensure my artists have the skills at hand to translate what they are seeing with confidence and clarity. I provide a comprehensive selection of methods to help in the interpretation of what is front of you regardless of subjects chosen, and we have access to many in this area.
We will venture each day into the surrounding, landscape, villages, interiors and find something to focus on and spend the day capturing it on paper. I do not mind what media is chosen, obviously when travelling water based products are the simplest. Later if necessary you can finish off in the studio ready for the next exploration.
Ev has taken artists for more than a decade to countries from Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Italy, Portugal, Japan and Turkey as she loves the challenge to find the unique qualities of the places she visits. Her valued contribution as an extraordinary tutor whose focus is on the students’ endeavours means tours fill quickly.
Ev Hales (along with Angela and Adrian) will immerse you in an intense 17 day painting exploration of France that will both inspire and challenge you..

Designed as a specific painting tour, partners can be included but main activities revolve around the painting and as the house is 5 minutes (by Car) from the nearest town activities at the property include walking ( lots of walks,) reading, swimming, snoozing pottering in the garden or with the chicks and rabbits – so really designed for artists.
Not Included: 5 lunches and 2 dinners when we visit places like Sarlat and Rocomadour where most people enjoy finding a little café to explore.
Very few other out of pocket expenses except your own spending money or if you wish to explore the castle or do some other extra tour not involving the whole group for painting purposes.
Other days we have a cut lunch or picnic for when we are in smaller places without restaurant facilities.
Airfares to and from Toulouse.
